Eco – Friendly Car Washing Tips

Cleaning your car takes time and effort which is why some people don’t bother to check the impact of the car washing and detailing materials they use on our planet. But doing something good for our environment doesn’t have to be inconvenient. Here are some tips you can consider:

1. Don’t use the water hose frequently.

Instead of using a water hose, use 2 buckets of water and sponge. Doing this conserves water which is great for the environment. People often leave the water running in their hose which makes it very wasteful.

2. Clean your car on a grassy area.

Car washing often involves the use of products that contain chemicals which may be hazardous to the environment. Grass can filter toxic substances and stop it from going down drains which lead to creeks, rivers and seas.

2. Use homemade window and glass cleaners.

Some window and glass cleaners contain harsh chemicals. You can make your own cleaning solution by mixing equal amounts of distilled water and vinegar and pour into a spray bottle.

4. Clean your car regularly.

If you wait too long in between washes, you’ll end up needing to use more water than usual because of the dirt buildup in the interior and exterior of your vehicle. You’ll need to do more washing and scrubbing which translates to more water requirements.

5. Make your own car wax.

You can make your own car wax that do not require the use of unsafe chemicals. Mix 1 part lemon juice to 2 parts olive oil. Once thoroughly mixed, you can then apply it on your car’s body with a clean cloth.

6. Use a pressure washer instead of a traditional water hose.

This uses 75% less water than a regular water hose. Not only can you finish the task faster, but you’ll also end up conserving water.

7. Use microfiber towels and other reusable cleaning tools.

Use a clean microfiber towel to wipe your car dry instead of disposable products. Paper towels and other similar items need to be thrown out after a single use which is not good for our planet.

There are many organic products that you can use for cleaning your car which are non-hazardous, non-toxic and biodegradable. Quality products on the market can remove tough stains and are safe to use on cars. Moreover, many of these products are plant-based cleaning agents so you don’t have to worry about any toxic chemicals that may adversely affect your health in the long run.

Finally, when cleaning your car, always be conscious about how much product or water you use. Don’t waste any of these resources (like leaving the water running) as the wastage could add up over time.

If you have neither the time or the energy to clean your car (hey, we’ve all been there!), don’t worry. There are companies like Mister Car Wash or Autobell Car Wash that can thoroughly clean your car in a way that is sustainable and friendly to the environment.
